3 Reasons Why You Don't Have to be 'Creative' to Create

Creativity is used by everyone, every day, whether they know it or not. What if you geared your creativity towards spreading joy to others? The world would probably look a little different,

I'm hopeful that if there is one thing that Catchall Creatives accomplishes, it's encouraging you to embrace your creativity. Everyone is creative in their own way - it doesn't have to solely be art through which you express your creativity. You can be creative with how you dress everyday, the meals you cook, how you exercise your body, how you problem solve at work, how you surprise someone special in your life, how you empathize with a stranger... that last one is an interesting one, but I'll get to that soon!

Here are 3 reasons why you don't need to label yourself (or have others label you) as a creative person in order to be creative:

Reason 1 - There's only one you!

As cliché as that sounds, it's so true! It should be reassuring knowing that no one, literally no one, thinks the exact same. Art is intriguing because everyone has a different interpretation of artwork. At one of my recent art markets, a woman picked up one of my whiskey glass sketches and said, "oh wow! look at that butterfly in the glass!". And she truly thought it was a great sketch. She held it for a while longer and came to the realization that the butterfly was indeed, an orange haha. My point being: everyone interprets things differently. And whether you want to or not, you interpret things every day.

Just like a finger print, no one can copy your creativity or the way you interpret things exactly. You're so unique! Everyone is creative without even trying and just for being the person that God made you … that's pretty cool.

Reason 2 - Resources

Some may think that you need to go to art school in order to have all the resources you need to officially be called an "artist". And after you get a degree in art, that grants you the right to share your creativity with the world. Not knocking art school, just the connotation of people thinking that is the only option!

There are so many resources at our fingertips to spark new ideas. For example, umm... hello? YouTube! YouTube has so many videos (especially videos about creatives!) that you can simply see someone else's way of doing something. Then you can take that and do it your own way.

Even more simple than using the internet, sometimes all the resources you need are tangible. Paper and pencil are great starts to creativity. You can write poetry, a grocery list, draw a picture, the opportunities are endless. I'm not sure if you've seen this, but people are making art out of trash nowadays, so the tools and resources are all around you!!

Reason 3 - Time

You have time. If there is one lesson I've learned with sharing my art is that you don't need everyone else to be on board with how you want to express your unique creativity. And you don't need to wait until everyone approves of you showcasing your creativity. Social media is one way to showcase your creativity, but I also mean other means of showcasing: drawing something and showing it to your family, taking your camera with you everywhere you go just because you like photography, just being happy with yourself and what you create, etc. The list goes on with the variety of ways to get that gratification after you create something unique - whether it comes from someone else or yourself.

You don't need to have a really long first Instagram post with a "this is why I'm doing this" caption. Everything doesn't have to be perfectly set up for you to just start. Actions speak so much louder than words!! Just do it. Spread joy with creativity without running it by anyone - you'd be amazed at how impactful it is.

In Conclusion...

I said I would come to it soon, so of course I wait until the end of the blog lol but try to use these three reasons to get rid of the excuses. Your unique creativity, resources, and the time you have can be used to embrace your creativity and use it to spread joy to yourself AND others. You can create something and be happy about it, give yourself a pat on the back. You can also think of ways to make someone else feel that exact same way, just need to think creatively!

There are a handful of people I do not know and I take the time and use my resources to learn about what a perfect stranger is asking for. I find confidence in the fact that no one will ever create something like I can, and that it will be unique in the fact that I purely want to spread joy to someone even if I've never met them in person.

God has blessed us all in special ways to honor Him - embracing your creativity could be the starting point of reflecting Jesus' character and loving our neighbors just like He did.
