Why Different Art Mediums?

Updated: Mar 15, 2021

I kept going back and forth about having such a broad artistic portfolio. I thought to myself, "If I'm spread too thin between mediums, no one is going to be interested.", "Maybe I would be more successful if I just pick something to focus on instead of doing a "catch all" of things.", "I'll never be able to market myself if I'm doing too many things.", and so on and so forth. The more I thought about it though, the more I realized how doing a catch all of artwork is what would make me the happiest!

The reason I never posted my artwork to begin with was because I didn't think that anyone would care, I didn't think that I was that good. As I mentioned in my first blog post, I've come a long way and I'm just so happy to share what I can do with you all. I'm even more thrilled to have the chance to spread joy in any way that I can.

My positive thoughts and self talk began to completely overrun that negative mindset; and it was during this time I understood the personal benefits of multiple art focuses. I started telling myself: 1) I was not going to truly enjoy doing this unless I was able to explore and learn about different unique ways to be creative. 2) Who cares what people think? 3) DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY! 4) Emma, you are good at this! The positivity has been overflowing and has brought so much joy into my life, and I want to bring that energy into Catchall Creatives, and spread that contagious joy to others :)

I have a lot of goals for this platform, one of them is making photography a big part of my portfolio. The only camera I own right now is the one on my phone, so I'm just researching right now. Another goal I have is to really figure out what my true niches are and to focus on those - all while maintaining the creative, childlike mindset to continue exploring art. I love the thought of those "popular" mediums changing and I can't wait to see how this platform evolves.

Creativity can be an incredibly valuable tool - it doesn't have to be expressed solely through art. Writing this blog has opened my eyes to creative writing that I normally wouldn't do. I write in my journal, but nothing like a blog that other people can look at haha. Like I mentioned, I would LOVE to explore the world of photography and learn how to help people capture those special moments and also photograph animals. I'm sitting in on a free photography class right now as I type this blog out and take notes on the class - I'm so motivated to not only learn about it, but to also have another channel to hopefully inspire others to be creative!

I would love to learn more about how you like to be creative! Please connect with me or write a comment so we can have a creative discussion about art, creativity, life, anything! If you've made it this far on this blog post, thank you so so much for your support!
